The brief for this semi-detached four bedroomed house was to remodel and extend the house to provide a family home suitable for modern living. The rear of the house faces northeast so maximising access to sunlight was a significant challenge. High energy efficiency was important while being respectful of the original architecture. The house was to be modern and family friendly with great connectivity to the garden. The idea was to capture eastern and southern sunlight with roof lights in the single storey extension flat roof.

In mornings and early afternoons the kitchen and dining spaces are drenched in natural sunlight. The house had the benefit of a very generous rear garden so maximising visual and physical access to the garden was a high priority. DMVF extended the house to provide additional accommodation, access more sunlight and open it up to the garden, resulting in a more than fitting environment for modern family life.
