The existing property was a 1960’s 3 bedroom bungalow in County Meath in need of complete refurbishment.

The house was remodelled to provide open plan living accommodation on the ground floor opening to the front, rear and side gardens allowing changing qualities of light to pass through at different times of day. A new bedroom wing at first floor level is located at the rear of the house and over the garage extension at the side of the house. High level clerestory glazing was introduced at the front of the house above first floor level allowing natural south light to filter through Iroko slats to the main bedrooms and circulation area on the first floor.

Natural stone and hardwoods are used throughout the ground floor with a mixture of ceramic and stone tiles to the bathrooms and ensuites. Dark grey aluminium external doors and windows are used with solid teak slats to filter direct southern light. A mixture of iroko cladding and painted render is used throughout as external finishes. The house was highly insulated, orientation and size of windows and doors was exploited to increase solar gain and solar panels were fitted to the south facing roofs to increase the energy efficiency of the house.
